Irma Rognoni Viader Irma Rognoni took her degree in Law after studying at Barcelona University and Palma de Mallorca University and holds a Master in Mediation and Alternative Conflict Resolution (ACR) from the Ramon Lull University. She is a practising lawyer and specialized in the Rights of Minors, Rights of Entities and Human Rights. Being a student, she taught in the Political Economy Department at Barcelona University School of Law. Currently she lectures on Mediation and ACR in a Master’s programme at the Ramon Llull University and at Autonomous University of Barcelona. She is member of Barcelona´s BAR Association and also of Human Rights Institute of the International BAR Association. She was awarded by the DURAN I BAS Prize of Private Law from the Barcelona BAR Association in 1993.

She has published articles and reports in the field of both Mediation and Socio-legal Interventions based on actions of several NGOs. Among her publications are: CENTRE UNIVERSITARI PAU I TREVA: Associations and Local Government as Agents for Peace(2000); BOFILL FOUNDATION: Minors and Young People in the Streets: socio-legal vision (2001); CONRED: Virtual Community against Violence towards Children and Adolescent Immigrants without social support (2002); ARIEL: Family Mediation in the judicial orbit (2003);

As for the intervention based on actions of entities, she collaborated with the local office of AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL, but had gained her real first working experience at the centre of UNESCO in Catalonia. As a coordinator and legal counsellor for the ADDIA Association, for the right of children of being adopted, and in cooperation with the Catalan Government and the governments of other countries, she got engaged in organizing and conducting international adoptions within the Autonomous Government of Catalonia, thus creating the first Cooperating Entity for International Adoption in Spain. She then joined the ESCO Foundation as a legal assessor, attending a great number of neglected families in extreme poverty and on the fringe of society and later was appointed chairwomen of the organization with more than 400 collaborating volunteers. At the FICAT Foundation, Council for the Defence of Human Rights, she is responsible for legal aspects and mediation. She also heads the patronage for children of WAWA BOLIVIA and is co-founder of the ACR Centre AEQUITAS in Barcelona.

Being consulted on a number of occasions by various Departments of the Autonomous Catalan Government, she has been a Substitute Member of the Sectorial and Permanent Commissions of its Social Welfare Department. She has been cooperating as a legal advisor in working out a Governmental Programme on Child Matters with the present Secretary of Health of the Catalan Government. She has also participated in drawing up and reviewing various Catalan Laws and Regulations.

Having participated as a mediator and facilitator in crisis management of several NGOs on a local, regional or national basis – with international repercussions – she has also dealt with conciliation processes of several local, regional or national administrations, coping with conflictive social or socio-legal situations. Currently she is one of the facilitators in the Inter-Rwandese-Dialogue (DIR), under the auspices of Juan Carrero, President of the S´Olivar Foundation in Majorca.
